Welding Program
We request that you call for availability for practice and testing. When tests are scheduled, all welders must be at the Training Center no later than 7:30. Failure to be ready at 7:30 could result in your inability to test that day.
The following welding tests are offered on a routine basis at the Training Center:
- A2 - SMAW Limited Thickness - All Position
- 3/8" carbon steel plate with 1/4" x 1" carbon backing
- Single V-Groove (AWS Pre-Qualified Groove BU-2a) with 1/4" Root Opening
- 1/8" E7018 electrodes (typically Lincoln Excalibur)
- 3G & 4G Positions
- Tested to the D1.5 Bridge Code (No Power tools allowed during testing)
- A1 - SMAW Unlimited Thickness - All Position
- 1" carbon steel plate with 3/8" x 1-1/2" carbon backing
- Single V-Groove (AWS Pre-Qualified Groove BU-2a) with 1/4" Root Opening
- 1/8" E7018 electrodes (typically Lincoln Excalibur)
- 3G & 4G Positions
- Tested to the D1.5 Bridge Code (No Power tools allowed during testing)
- B1a - FCAW-S Limited Thickness - All Position
- 1" carbon steel plate with 3/8" x 1-1/2" carbon backing
- Single V-Groove (AWS Pre-Qualified Groove BU-2a) with 3/8" Root Opening
- 5/64" E71T-8 electrodes (typically Lincoln NR-233)
- 3G & 4G Positions
- Tested to the D1.5 Bridge Code (No Power tools allowed during testing)

When taking a weld test it is recommended that you bring the following items to assist you in the test:
- Flashlight
- Scratch Awl or Pick
- Chisel
- Welding Shield
- Welding Gloves
- Chipping Hammer
- Wire Brush
The apprenticeship has wire brushes and chipping hammers available should you need to borrow one.
